Got {kn}it!

I think I've finally figured out knitting. I got some suggestions on how to hold the yarn (just like I do in crochet...how easy is that?!?) and I've been watching Knitty Gritty on HGTV. This is my attempt at a little checkerboard with some Magic Stripes yarn. Nice, huh?

But, I'm going to frog it (rrrip-it, rrrrip-it, rrrrip-it out) because the edges aren't clean and it's really tight at the beginning. And I think I'm not going to try this crazy pattern as a first timer (I already tried a popcorn which was fun, but it wasn't looking so hot). I'm getting really good at the knit stitch, so I might just do a garter stitch scarf (that's knitting every row; something about the purl stitch slows me down).

Now I need to figure out how to keep my hands from cramping when I'm doing this...

If you go to the Hancock Fabrics web site, and look under the free projects, you can find a pattern for a dish cloth. It is under the 2005 Trunk Show listing. It is 2 rows of knit, then 2 rows of k1p1. It is pretty simple. I altered the pattern slightly, and use it to make baby blankets. You will need cotton yarn for dish cloths.
