Full of funnies!

Yesterday was X-man's birthday (and the Sunday before was Buttercup's).

He kept telling me that in the night, his legs grew longer and he was bigger now because he was four!

Well, before naptime, after Buttercup went down for her nap, I was reading X-man a book. He started kissing me and said, "Mommy, it's nice to give kisses and hugs and snuggles of love!" I smiled, said, "Yes, it is!" and gave him some kisses. He looked up at me and said, "Mommy, don't kiss me!" Ha!

Later I had the kids color some thank you cards for some friends of ours who gave them some birthday presents. I asked X-man what he wanted to say in his card and here's what I wrote down for him:

Thank you for the Toy Story book.
I love you.
Amen.

I cracked up as I wrote it!

And then he even wrote his own name! All by himself! I don't think anyone but me would recognize that's what it was without my translations of some of the letters, but I was so proud of him. I even had him write his name again on another piece of paper so I could keep it. It's so cute!

As for Buttercup, she's definitely got the 'tude of a two year old. She loves to say no and in fact, sometimes I think she's just saying no because she likes the word! And now that she has figured out about the words yep and nope, she likes to say those, too. However, we really work with the kids to get them to answer with yes, ma'am and yes, sir instead of yea, or uh-huh. So the other day, I asked Buttercup a question and she said, "Yep. Yes, ma'am. No yep!" She's going to get it figured out!

X-man and the things he says

I am constantly laughing at the things this boy says sometimes!

Just a few days ago, we picked up the kids from their week-long visit with Granddaddy. As we pulled up to the house, X-man noticed the, oh, 20 mushrooms in the front yard (TC and I had also been gone on a week-long vacation of our own!). So, he asked if he could go see them. Daddy said, "Yes, but don't touch them." X-man said, "Oh, I never touch mushrooms!" (with a great dramatic voice!) And would you imagine he proceeded to go right to them and touch them? (of course you would believe it!)

Buttercup and X-man were sitting on the couch and Buttercup dropped her toy. X-man picked it up and I said to Buttercup, "What do you say?" She looked straight at X-man and said, "tan too!" X-man said, "You're welcome! Mommy, I said 'You're welcome!'" He's quite proud of himself using his polite words...and he's working on "teaching" them to his little sister! Awwwww!

I was getting lunch ready and I was making peanut butter and honey sandwiches (or just peanut butter on bread is how X-man likes them). X-man told me he wanted "boy peanut butter." I knew exactly what he meant. We are a his and hers peanut butter household (thanks for that phrase, ^starshine!). I like creamy and TC likes crunchy. The fact that X-man logic-ed out that it meant the kind daddy likes is "boy kind" cracks me up. What cracks me up even more is that I'm always talking about how I prefer "girl" chocolate chip cookies over the "boy" kind.

I'll let you kick that around for a bit. Got it? Yep, I like my chocolate chip cookies without nuts. Ha ha ha!

The Bible According to a 3 Year Old

I love to hear X-man's interpretations of the Bible stories he hears at church. My favorite is still this one about Adam and Eve, but today he had quite a doozy. I'll get to that one in a minute.

A few weeks ago, X-man told us that Jesus was mad and turned the table over. He didn't like the people in the temple. Now that one was pretty close to actual.

And last Sunday X-man told us that Peter didn't know Jesus and Jesus was sad...and "I like roosters." So, the story about Peter denying Jesus was a little garbled, but I think he still got the jist.

Today, being Palm Sunday, I was pretty sure I knew what story they learned about. Before the story time, though, the kids all got to sing in big church. And TC and I volunteered to help out with the Young Adult chorus (I'm glad they still consider us young adults) that sang with the kids. When X-man came into the sanctuary with the rest of the kids, he was doing a great job of following directions. He was waving his palm branch with all his might! He finally noticed that daddy and I were up there and he turned to daddy and said, "Hi, Daddy!" Then he just went right to singing! And he did a great job.

Anyway, back to the story. At lunch I asked X-man what story they heard at church. This is exactly what he said:

"The people had pecan branches (it was hard to discern if he said "palm" or "pecan"). Jesus rode on a donkey. They put down the pecan branches and Jesus walked on them."

Then he looked at us very concerned and said, "But why did those people take his car?"

I nearly fell out of my seat.

Folks, he's here all week...

X-man is a hoot! Quite regularly he says something that will really get me laughing.

Yesterday at naptime, I crawled into bed with him to tuck him in and he said, "Mommy, how was your day?" (He and daddy have this conversation at bedtime)

I said, "My day was outstanding! How was yours?" (His usual answer is whatever your answer was)

X-man said, "My day was INstanding!" Genius, I tell ya!

The English language is sometimes confusing...

X-man: "Mommy, put my jacket on!"
Daddy: "Mommy's busy, can daddy put your jacket on?"
X-man: "No Daddy! It's too small for you!"

----------

X-man: "The Lord ate an apple and Jesus was sad. Jesus was just a little bit sad."
Mommy: "Did anyone else eat an apple?"
X-man: "No, just the Lord."

He apparently didn't quite understand the story of Adam and Eve.

-----------

X-man likes to put his boots on by himself. He did that the other day and got them on the wrong feet. It told him that his boots were on the wrong feet and he said, "Yes, they are on the wrong feet." Then he carefully crossed his right leg over his left, and standing there with his legs crossed he looked at me and said, "Now they're on the right foots!"

More funny things...

I know I've said this before, but sometimes I just wish I had a tape recorder going all the time so I could record all of the things that X-man says! And these days, Buttercup tries to get in on the act. But usually, she's just hollering, "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" and X-man will holler back at her. It cracks them both up!

One of the cute things X-man says is, "Pick me wup!" I don't exactly know when that errant W ended up in the phrase, but it's there now! And he likes to be picked up, especially when he's whining.

Last Sunday, we all went to church and near the end of the service, my mom and I went down to get the kids from the nursery so they could stand up during the part of the service where we sing Happy Birthday to those with birthdays.

I was holding X-man and my mom was holding Buttercup and X-man was ready to go into the sanctuary to see daddy. I told him we needed to wait until the congregation stood up and they started singing. We didn't want to go inside during a prayer. Shortly after that, I reminded X-man to use his inside voice. So he started whispering something.

I couldn't really hear what he was saying due to the waterfall in the church foyer. So I asked him to say it again.

Again, he whispered.

I turned my head so that my ear was to his mouth and he took his little hand, put it on my chin and turned my head so that I was looking at him and whispered again.

Ha!

I told him I couldn't hear him. More whispering from him, head turning from me, and a chin twist from him.

So, this time I said, "Please talk in mommy's ear. I can't hear what you're saying."

And the little stinker said, LOUDLY, and right in my ear, "WHEN THEY ARE STANDING UP WE WILL GO IN!"

I nearly dropped him I was laughing so hard!

Make the craft fit you...

Three posts in one day? You'd think I have lots of extra time or something!

Buttercup is currently napping. I'm making some cards and X-man is playing with my paper punches. I've got a big Marvy punch that punches scalloped ovals. I just heard X-man say, "Gotta punch da football one, gotta punch da football one!"

See, crafting can be for boys, too!

In an effort to remember these...

The Scene: The public restroom at Jacque Penney's. Buttercup and X-man in the handicap stall with me and Aunt Doc in the next stall.

X-man, squatting and trying to look under the stall: "Aunt Doc, you makin' dirties in dere?"

...

X-man: "Giggle me, daddy! Giggle me!"
(that means tickle me!)

...

The Scene: X-man has just poked at Buttercup with his chopstick from his plastic sushi set.

Mommy: "Don't poke people with your chopstick or mommy will put it away."
X-man: "And den I will go get de chopstick."

...

X-man: "Let's watch the chick-monks!"
(that would be Alvin & the Chipmonks...the hit of the Christmas season, as opposed to Sleeping Beauty, the hit of the Great Road Trip of 2008)

...

This kid cracks me up!

It's just a jump to left...

...and then a step to the riiiiight!

TC and I went out on a date last night. We had tickets for an on-stage showing of Rocky Horror Show. It was hilarious! I grinned like an idiot through the whole thing.

No, we didn't dress up.

No, we didn't buy a prop bag.

I'd been telling X-man that Ms. K was coming to play with him and every time he'd say, "Cause mommy and daddy goin' ona date!" Very cute!

Ms. K finally got to the house and poor X-man got that little frowny face and his chin started quivering like he was holding back a flood of tears. He never did cry, but TC and I both got really sweet kisses and hugs. It was just too pitiful.

Now, how long do you think you'll have that song in your head?

Kids say...

My hair was in dire need of a trim (more like cut since it was about two weeks overdue!) so I went this afternoon while the kids were napping. I left TC playing on our new Wii Fit that we found yesterday!! Woo hoo!!

Anyway, I came home and had to wash my hair so I wouldn't make a mess everywhere with all the little hairs.

One interjection: I am either going to have to stop watching Tabatha's Salon Takeover on Bravo or stop going to Supercuts for my haircut. After seeing Tabatha go thorough all these hair salons and tell them how to get things back in shape, the Supercuts just paled in comparison to the salons. But I get a really good cut for $15. Where else can I get that?

Back to the hair washing. After I washed my hair, the kids were still asleep (another woo hoo!) so I took a nap...and just went to sleep with wet hair.

When I woke up, X-man saw me and with this little, concerned face said, "Mommy, you hair looks crazy lookin'!" Daddy had just said this, so I knew he was repeating. Then he said, "You gonna brush it?" I told him that I wasn't...I didn't explain to him that brushing wouldn't help. It would still be crazy-lookin'. Then X-man said, while running off, "I go getta brush!" And off he went to get his hair comb. I laughed the whole time he combed my hair!

Kids Say

Last week, TC had an especially busy day at work and got off work late. He wasn't home until 6:00...which is dinner time.

So, I had to start dinner without his help, but I can manage. I just put Buttercup in her doorway bouncer (thanks, ^starshine! She loves that thing!) and X-man pulled up his kitchen stool and I cooked away.

TC finally got home just as I was putting the finishing touches on dinner and we were talking. X-man just tried to talk over us. Daddy told him that mommy and daddy were talking, please don't interrupt. X-man looked at the two of us and said, "Mommy and daddy talk to Xan-xah, too!" Daddy informed him that yes, we'd talk to him, too, just let us finish this one conversation.

X-man began hopping up and down on his stool and he kept saying, "Daddy, Xan-xah have a question!" over and over and over. We finished talking and daddy said, "Ok. What's your question?"

X-man said, "Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...how was your day daddy?" We both nearly fell over laughing!

Did he just say that?

Last week, X-man, Buttercup and I ran some errands. One of them took us by this big field that had some rolled hay bales scattered around. When we were driving by, X-man said, "Wha's dat mommie?" It's his new favorite question. I asked him if he was talking about those big brown things that looked like they might roll.

"Yes!"

I told him it was hay. Horses ate hay.

And I thought we were done with it. I really should know better.

Last night, we were playing and he kept saying, "Hey!" I told him that hay was for horses and we laughed some more. So, before bathtime last night, I was tickling X-man and he said, "Hey! Hey! Hay is for horses!" I laughed and then he said, "And hay is good for rolling."

TC looked at me and said, "Did he just say something about rolling in the hay?"

Men...their minds are always in the gutter.

Funny Things

The funniest things come out of X-man's mouth. It's just so cute to watch them grasp our language.

This happened a while ago, but I have to get it down! My dad (who we call Paw-Paw) was changing X-man's diaper and said, "Now it's time to powder the donut!" So, X-man, being the little tape recorder, remembers that "that" is called a donut. A week later, we're at dinner with TC's family and X-man looks at me and says, "Time to powder the donut!" Oh, goodness! Good thing no one else heard him...or knew what he meant. Later that evening he comes up to me, points "there" and says, "That's called a donut." It was time to change his diaper anyway, so I took him to the room and told him what it was actually called...using the proper word for it. The next morning he came up to me, pointed to it and said, "That's called a peanut!" He was so proud of himself and I nearly spit out my drink!

...

Yesterday, X-man vacuumed up a cricket. About a month ago I vacuumed up a bug with the little vacuum just because I can't stand to smash bugs...don't like the crunch they make! So I vacuumed it up and threw it outside. Back to yesterday: X-man tells me that there's a bug in the vacuum and that we need to throw it outside. I told him I'd do it later. The cricket wasn't going anywhere (he was dead). This morning, he goes to the vacuum and says, "Mommy, what's that, mommy? What's that? Mommy, it's a...a...a crab!" He couldn't remember cricket, but I was impressed he came up with another "C" word!

...

And today when I dropped X-man off at his class for CDO, he looked at me and said, "Now mommy go." That means: I'm going to play now. You leave! I'm so glad that he's having fun in there! He had a great day and so did Buttercup!

GAH!

X-man, what is this word? Whenever you want to be loud, you'll look at us and say, "GAH!!" I guess it's a nice, explosive word. And it cracks me up. You have said this word ever since you started talking. We were sure it would eventually evolve into a real word, but it hasn't evolved. So this must be the real word.

Your own little word to express loudness.

You are too silly!

More Funnies

This morning when X-man got up (a 7:15), I was in the living room (with Buttercup who was already awake...grrrr). I had a recording of last night's Olympic Swimming on the TV and X-man said, "Oh, loooook! Olymp-licks!"

After that, he noticed that Buttercup was in my lap and he came over to give her a kiss on her arm. That's his kissing place of choice for Buttercup. He kissed her and she just smiled and giggled. X-man said, "She smilin' back atchoo!" We still have to work on the you/me conundrum.

After kisses, he gave her a hug and started singing, "I wuv yoo, a bushel a peck anda hugga round a neck." Love it!!

Then during a diaper change, X-man touched my hair and said, "Mommy's hair got nasties in it." Now, I do put hair gel in my hair, but I wouldn't consider it nasty! I hink that someone at school must use that word because I don't think that's a regular one in my vocabulary.

On the not so funny side, I've been taking a nursing break today and feeding Buttercup with expressed milk in a bottle. She's done something crazy during nursing that has me dry, cracked and peeling. And I am in tears when she nurses. I stil have some pain while I'm pumping, but I hadn't really considered an infection until someone on one of my mommy boards mentioned it. We're going to see how tonight goes when I do nurse her. I've been really impressed, though, with how well she's taken the two bottles today!

Is he a termite?

I just noticed teeth marks on the gate that keeps X-man in his room.

***

I've decided that he's either going to be a comedian or a band director when he grows up.

Why?

Comedian:

X-man: "Not pick self up!"
He puts his hands on his hips and hops up like he's trying to pick himself up.
Me: "No, you can't pick yourself up!"
X-man: contagious fit of laughter

Band Director:

playing catch with a beach ball
X-man: "One more time!"
He tosses me the ball and I toss it back.
X-man: "One more time!"
and it repeats...

Amazing!

For the last few months, I've been nursing Buttercup every 4 hours starting at 5:00 am and ending at 9:00 pm. Last night I decided I wanted to try to put her to bed a little earlier, hoping that she wouldn't wake up earlier to eat. So, I nursed her at 8:00 and put her to bed at 8:45. We went to bed at 10:00 and I woke up at 5:30am with the alarm! Buttercup slept all night without crying out and was still asleep at 5:30! She did start making a few little grunts so I went to feed her and silly girl still had her pacifier in her mouth. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who slept hard last night!

Wonder if she'll do it again tonight?

In other X-man news, he had a new favorite drink yesterday: Yem-on-aid! We call it lemonade, and it kinda is. It's about 1/4 of a packet of Crystal Light On the Go mixed into his water. When daddy made some for him in his sippy cup, X-man insisted again (like he does with his chocolate milk) that it not be shaken or stirred. Daddy told him that the lemonade had to be shaken and so X-man shook it. So, everytime he asked me for more "yem-on-aid, pwease" he also said that he was going to shake it. Silly boy.

Silly Boy

He says: "Do it outcha"
He means: "Do it without you"
Why: One night at dinner, he said he wasn't going to say the blessing with us. So I said, "Ok, we'll do it withoutcha"...and he's a little parrot.

He says: "Do it hard way" with a very pitiful look on his face
Why: Occasionally we have to wrastle (yes, I spelled that exactly the way I wanted to) the boy to change his diaper. Or we just have a general hard time getting him on the floor to change it. If he's giving us a hard time, we'll ask him if he wants to do it the hard way or the easy way. Last night after bath, he toodled his little unclothed self into his room, looked at daddy and said, "Do it hard way." Daddy had to try really hard not to laugh.

He has discovered clothes pins (I use them to hold bags of chips or whatever together). And he has discovered where I keep them (*note* take the sharp stuff out of the clothes pin drawer!). I went to get a clothes pin this afternoon (to close up my bag of mini marshmallows...yum!) and I couldn't find on in the drawer! But there were three in the floor in the living room...

He says: "Ohhhhh, tankyoo mommy"
He means" "Here you go"
Why: Whenever he hands me something, I say "Oh, thank you X-man" so when he hands me something he says "thank you mommy." He hasn't quite gotten the concept of "you're welcome."

He says: "Not shake it or stir it"
He means: "Please don't shake or stir up my chocolate milk. I want you to put chocolate it in and then just let it sink to the bottom."
Why: He's two! I call him double-o-two when he does this.

At the Table

TC left for Seattle on Tuesday morning and won't be home until tomorrow afternoon. The kids haven't seen him since Monday night and I know they realize he's gone.

Me: X-man, do you know what tomorrow is?
X-man: Sunday!
Me: No, it's not Sunday. It's Thursday. Do you know what that means? I'd been telling him that daddy would come home from his meeting on Thursday.
X-man: Daddy stay home! Which is the appropriate answer to what Saturday means.
Me: No, but Daddy will be home tomorrow! Do you miss Daddy?
X-man: No
Me: You don't miss Daddy?
X-man: Not Miss Daddy. Mr. Daddy!

He does have a point...

More Funny...

(at least to me)

X-man says the funniest things and I love the way he puts his phrases together. TC calls him Yoda sometimes!

At church, one of the ladies in the nursery told us that there's a little girl in the same room as X-man whose name is Ella. For some reason, she decided that her name was going to be Ki-Ki for the day. She went around telling everyone her name was Ki-Ki and finally X-man went up to her and very emphatically said, "Ella!" Like, you crazy girl, your name is Ella!

When I burp Buttercup, I tell X-man that we have to get the bubbles out. And he likes to pat her on the back after she's through eating to help get the bubbles out. The other day, Buttercup was nursing and, as usual, X-man wanted to kiss every little part of her. He was kissing her "tidy toes" (those are tiny toes for those that don't speak X-man-ese) and she let out a really nice toot. He looked up in awe and said, "Bubbles!"

One time while I was nursing Buttercup, X-man wanted me to read him a book. For some reason, I asked him to count to ten before I'd read it. I was probably having let-down and wanted to make sure Buttercup stayed latched on so I didn't spray her! Well, now every time I'm nursing Buttercup and X-man wants to read, he'll bring me a book and say, "Woh, two, pee, por, pie, sis, seben, eigh, nie, ten-d!"

We were watching TV after X-man's nap and Jeopardy came on. He grinned, pointed at the TV and said, "Yeh duh dee!" Oh, and he knows the Price is Right, too. I'm such a great mom..,
