It Happened...

I had my first encounter with a tummy-toucher. First off, it was a female so that makes it not so creepy and I do know her. She's about my age (maybe a bit older). And just yesterday she told me I had a really charming Texas/Southern accent. I don't think I have an accent, but at least she thought it was nice and not redneck-y.

Anyway, I told her that I was pregnant. She's never been pregnant and her sister's little boy is a year and a half. She asked me how far along I was and if we could tell the sex at this point. Then, she put her hand on my tummy and said, "Can you feel it in there?"

On the one hand, that was a little weird because I've just been looking at my tummy as not-flat-abs and not really as a pregnant belly. On the other hand, it was kinda exciting because she obviously thought my little pooch was a baby!! At least it wasn't a complete stranger.

Now for me, I would NEVER put my hand on a stranger's pregnant tummy...or on a friend's tummy for that matter. If they asked me if I wanted to, I might, but I'm not going to ask and I'm sure as heck not going to just stick my hand right there on the belly! I don't even think I'd touch my sister's tummy without her permission!

What do you think?

You would, too!! Then again, maybe not in public, so only when we're at home, lying on the couch, and I have a belly ache, but you would, too!!!!

If you think tummy touching is bad just wait until the baby is born and complete strangers touch your baby without asking.

That would freak me out. I don't like for people to touch me without my permission anyway. Eeekk!

Last time around the tummy touching wierded me out as well. So far I've been lucky this time around. I can't imagine reaching out and touching anyone's belly! I got more used to it as my belly grew bigger, though. What Jen said is true--it doesn't even compare to the rage you feel when a stranger reaches out to touch your little baby's face!

Oh yea.. I used to hate that. One gal I worked with (and was not friends with) totally came up and TALKED to my belly. At 8 weeks pregnant. Dude.. she doesn't have EARS yet.
