One week

To my little X-Man -

Posted by Picasa

You are one week old today. It's hard to believe that one week ago, your daddy and I were meeting you for the first time. My how our life has changed in so few days...and in so many ways.

Every single thing I think of now involves you. Revolves around you to be exact. On Tuesday, after our first night at home with you, I took a shower. As I washed my face, I imagined rubbing my hands all over your face.

Breastfeeding is going better for the most part. We still have moments that feel like you've forgotten how to do it. But I know you're getting enough food. You're having plenty of dirty and wet diapers.

Speaking of diapers, who knew I'd be so interested in how many times you'd pooped and peed during the day? Tuesday was a hard day...I'm sure it was compounded by the horrible night's sleep we all got on Monday night. I was worried you weren't getting any food. However, when you had a great big, yellow, curdy, poopy diaper, I just almost cheered! That means that 1.) my milk had come in and 2.) that you were taking it in! It's the little things that make me happy.

Oh, and I get excited when I have my own poops. One of these days I'm sure I'll get back to regular.

We've figured out how to help you sleep a little better during the night. We can put your changing pad in the bassinet and I think you feel a little more snuggled in.

You can already hold your neck up for a few seconds and you like to throw your right leg over your left and tilt your whole body to the left.

You make the cutest little faces. I like it when you wrinkle up your forehead and when you open your eyes and form your mouth into an "O." You also apparently have a button somewhere in your mouth that, when hit with the "dinner cart" causes you to toot. Any my goodness can you toot! You're all boy already! It brought to mind a little poem my own Paw-Paw used to say:

Rooty toot toot
Rooty toot toot
We're the boys from the institute.
We don't smoke
Ane we don't chew
And we don't go with the girls that do!

You have the softest little cheeks and I could just rub them forever. Even when I get frustrated with our breastfeeding progress or with your sleep cycles that don't always jive with mine, you are still the most precious little baby boy in the world. Of course, I'm biased.

All in all, I think we are starting out on the right foot. TC and I can't wait to watch you grow up and to actually watch your personality form. Of course, in this family you're already doomed in the humor department. I can't do anything about that.

Happy one week birthday and I love you!

What a bundle of joy! You definitely sound like a Mommy now. Give him a lots of hugs/kisses for us. I remember constantly touching Babyluv's newborn skin - oh, it was the greatest thing my hands had ever touched. The first time Daddyluv touched her (about 3 minutes after she came into this world), he said, "Oh my gosh, she is so soft!" We even have him on videotape saying those words. Fun times are ahead...I love being a Mommy and so will you!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness, he is so beautiful - and wow, he looks like Freebird. I am so happy for you - congratulations! The first week just flies by and you think, wait, weren't you just 3 days old a minute ago?

But I promise, it flies and every day is better and better. Congratulations! And welcome to Mamahood.
