The only thing that stays the same is change.

We got some news that I've been dreading a bit from the college that TC and I graduated from (along with 4 others from my blogroll and several that I know that read this). In order for our University to participate in NCAA games, the mascot will have to be changed. Now, we could probably keep the mascot the same and not participate in NCAA stuff...yeah, right.

It's currently the Indians. An appeal was made since our mascot honors the Indians that the original president grew up with. The appeal was rejected. Now, Florida will get to keep their mascot, the Seminole, since they are endorsed by a specific tribe...

...and maybe their $$$ has something to do with it? Just a side commentary.

Anyway, it looks like my alma mater will get a new mascot. That kinda makes me sad because the mascot was so much a part of the school and the tradition.

However, there are a few things that won't change when the mascot changes:

My degree will still be good (thank goodness!)
I'll still have all the same friends from college that I've had before (big HUGS to all of you!!!)
In my mind, it will always be the Indians, because that's what's in all of my memories.

And besides, we didn't choose the school because of it's mascot. We chose it because it was close to home, or because of the faculty, or because of a favorable recommendation from a friend, or because of any number of reasons. But none of those reasons were because it was the Indians.

So, just as other things from college change (our social clubs, the faculty, the buildings) so will this. But regardless of what changes are made,

"Your hall of fame is in our hearts. All hail to thee!"

**Ok, I know. A little cheesy. Just go with me on this.

Oh man! How did I not hear this was final!

I don't think I'll ever quite understand why it's for an NFL team in DC to have the name/mascot it does but not for our school to have the so-much-less-inflamatory mascot that was not intended to be degrating. Grrrrr...
