Happy Birthday Cabbage Patch Kids!

The Cabbage Patch Kids are celebrating their 25th birthday. Can you believe it? 25 years ago these dolls were all the rage. I remember seeing things on the news about how hard they were to find. My mom even got one for me and my sister and had then stored at dad's drugstore. A customer was talking about them and how she had never seen one...they were flying off the shelves as fast as they were being stocked. My dad tells her he has one in the back...he's saving them for Christmas for his girls. Long story short, the customer offers dad an outrageous sum of money for the dolls. He, like a good daddy, refused.

And sis and I got "ugly dolls" for Christmas (mine was named Lotta Bella). Dad liked to call them "ugly dolls"...probably because he did think they were ugly and it really annoyed me (probably annoyed my sis, too). The next year, Santa brought us twins...each! I think in all, I have 4 Cabbage Patch Kids. I should go find them...they're in my parents' garage somewhere...

How many Cabbage Patch Kids did you have? Do you have any running around your house now?

My Mom did her best to make me two handmade version of the doll, but I HATED them. I wanted the real thing. Of course now I treasure them...

With all these little girls running around our house, we have several Cabbage Patch Kids. Mom Junior is very good at remembering their birthdays and told me that Z's baby just had a birthday! LOL

My grandma made my sis and I handmade dolls and we never really knew the difference. Now TJ has 2 of them and she received those both before she was 2 years old! So, needless to say, I know their birthdays and such. I did, however, put all the adoption papers and birth certificates in TJ's time capsule.

I had three Cabbage Patch dolls. The first one I got had red pigtails and I sent in the paper work to have her name changed and her name was Melissa Anne. Then I got a preemie and a bald little boy that came with the cabbage patch horse. I still have all of the dolls and the horse. I'm feeling kind of pathetic that I remember all of that !!!

You know I never had one? I kind of missed the craze and my own girls aren't so much into dolls.

My mom just reminded me the other day that she and my dad made a trip to Canada to get mine!

I had a kid (Jodi Michelle), a baby (Minna Beatrice), and a dog (did they have names, too?). My mom used to sew matching outfits for my kid and me :)

Wow...25 years?! I am getting old! My mom also made us handmade dolls that looked (kinda) like Cabbage Patch Kids...since they were so hard to find! We of course didn't care for them too much. My parents then went up to Canada and bought us our first ones...they could only find "boy" dolls...so my first was a boy. :) I received a few after that though...and now have 5 in a storage bin in my closet.

A good while after the craze I got two---a preemie and an older one with glasses. I assume my mother still has them but I really don't know! I wasn't ever ver attached to them.
