Learning is Messy!

This is my new mantra:

Learning is messy!

X-man has been doing well with pulling things out of (pick one) the toy box, the block bucket, my makeup basket. Lately, though, he's started to put things back in! And that's very exciting.

However, to have things to put back in, you have to pull things...everything...out.

I'm not one that has the compulsion to keep a tidy house. Don't get me wrong. I don't have dirty dishes every where or piles and piles of things. I'm just not a neat freak. But sometimes the look of my living room floor with every single toy just sitting there makes me a little overwhelmed.

Another thing that X-man is still working on is feeding himself. I will frequently decide to spoon- (or fork-) feed him just to keep him from getting (pick one) apples, pears, bananas, goldfish all over himself. Mamma, how will he ever learn if you don't let him practice?!? Again, not a neat freak, but something about food all over his everything makes me really, really overwhelmed!!

I just have to get over these things and let him learn. And with my cleansing breath say, Learning is Messy!

i'm with you on the messy thing. toys all over the place can be overwhelming, as well as the food. we actually didn't try to use the fork and spoon until more recently, and it doesn't seem to have any effect on him learning to feed himself-it actually seems better b/c he has more control over holding things now!
